LIVER
As the primary detoxification organ, the Liver is vital for neutralizing environmental and internal toxins. Poor nutrition, excessive toxin exposure or illness may compromise liver function, wherein the accumulated toxins give rise to various health concerns. Liver damage may result from viral exposure, including Hepatitis B and C, Epstein Barr, HIV and cold/flu viruses, as well as outside toxins, disrupting antioxidant synthesis, escalating oxidative stress to liver cells. As less antioxidant is available in the cells, more damage occurs, impairing immune cells, increasing inflammation and liver damage. Conversely, improving antioxidant functions in the cells inhibit viral replication, ultimately improving immunity.
EYES
According to the National Institutes of Health, millions of aging North Americans suffer impaired visual function from eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Research suggests oxidative damage is critical in the deteriorating eye structure and function.
Eye tissues are exceptionally vulnerable from daily light radiation and oxygen causing damage to lens proteins & cloudiness within the lens. The Light and oxygen-induced damage also bombard eye light receptors affecting visual function. Healthy visual function is critically dependent on a strong antioxidant defense system for the lens, retina and other eye tissues.
OVERALL HEALTH
Antioxidants include Bioflavanoids, which encompass more than 4,000 varying, natural compounds, including flavones, flavanones, flavonols, catechins, anthocyanidins and isoflavones.
The molecules are critical in:
- Vitamin C metabolism
- Microcirculation, Capillary & Connective Tissue Integrity
- Immune & Liver Function
- Platelet Stickiness
- Blood Pressure
- Cholesterol & Fat Metabolism
- Histamine Regulation
SMALL CIRCULATION
Your veins return the blood without oxygen to the heart (Venous Return). Equal blood flow into and out of the tissue or organ dictates the body's closed circulation. Venous Return is harder working against gravity in the arms & legs, that are sitting or standing, so muscles and tendons help to pump the blood flow. One way valves make it easier, unless they are damaged or poorly functioning, which causes the blood to pool in the arms & legs.
Your Vein Pressure is Higher with:
- Sitting or Standing a lot
- Obesity
- Pregnancy
- Blood Clots causing Poor Valve Function
- Increased Age
- Surgery
- No Activity
- Birth Control Pills
- Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
- Genetics
- Cancer

FOR DOCTORS
MILK THISTLE Silybum marianum has been traditionally used in herbal medicine as a hepatoprotectant and to support liver function, as stated in the NHPD monograph (2009). The German Commission E (1998) recommends Milk Thistle as a supportive treatment in chronic inflammatory liver disease and hepatic cirrhosis. Oxidative stress, inflammation, and fibrosis are characteristics of chronic liver disease and provide the rationale for investigations on the effect of Silymarin on disease progression in the absence of direct antiviral activity.
Milk Thistle is thought to work by preventing toxins from entering the liver, stimulating protein synthesis with hepatocyte regeneration, acting as a free-radical scavenger and antioxidant, by enhancing glutathione & superoxide dismutase levels, and lastly by modulating the immune response. The primary active constitutent of Milk Thistle is Silymarin, which is composed of six major flavonolignans: silybin A (SA), silybin B (SB), isosilybin A (ISA), isosilybin B (ISB), silychristin (SC), and silydianin (SD).
TISSUE PRO contains 190 mg of MILK THISTLE Silybum marianum, standardized to min. 80% silymarin, to assist in maintaining optimal liver, ocular, tissue & vascular health.
GRAPE SEED EXTRACT Vitis vinifera relieves symptoms related to non-complicated chronic venous insufficiency, as per the NHPD monograph 2009. Grape Seed Extract contains 85% oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC’s), bioflavonoids that have documented effectiveness as free radical scavengers protecting against oxidative damage, and protect the integrity of blood vessels, optimizing collagen health, by inhibition of proteolytic enzymes that degrade skin and vasculature.
TISSUE PRO contains 125 mg of GRAPE SEED EXTRACT, Vitis vinifera, standardized to min. 80% oligomeric proanthocyanidins, to assist in maintaining optimal tissue & vascular health.
TURMERIC Curcuma longa is grown in warm and rainy regions of the world such as China, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, and Peru. The ingredient has a long history of use in Ayurvedic medicine as a treatment for inflammatory conditions. Curcuminoids (curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin) are a mixture of several structurally close phenolic compounds present in the rhizomes of turmeric. Curcumin is a main component within the rhizomes of the spice turmeric and has been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of jaundice and other disorders of liver. Curcumin is widely used as a kitchen spice and food colorant throughout India, Asia and the Western world.
Curcumin also acts as a choleretic, antihepatotoxic and anti-inflammatory botanical. Anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective properties of turmeric and its constituents have been widely acknowledged. The proposed mechanism for hepatoprotection appears from its free radical-scavenging mechanism. It has been observed that at low superoxide concentrations, Curcumin effectively causes superoxide dismutation (formation of oxygen and hydrogen peroxide) without itself undergoing any chemical change, but at higher concentrations of superoxide, Curcumin inhibits superoxide activity by reacting with it. Curcumin appears to be extremely safe even at doses up to 8 grams daily.
TISSUE PRO contains 100 mg of TURMERIC Curcuma longa, to assist in maintaining optimal liver health, as a hepato/liver protectant.
HORSE CHESTNUT Aesculus hippocastanum is native to southeast Europe and its seeds are a staple in folk medicine that is traditionally used as a treatment for patients with venous problems. Microcirculatory dysfunction is associated with many cardiovascular disease states including peripheral vascular disease and venous insufficiency. Clinical use of Horse Chestnut Seed Extract (HCSE) for chronic venous disease support its use in chronic venous insufficiency to alleviate pain, heaviness, nocturnal cramps, itching, and edema in the legs.
The active constituents of Horse Chestnut Seed Extract (HCSE) are collectively known as Aescin and comprise of a mixture of alkylated triterpene glycosides (saponins). The proposed efficacy of Horse Chestnut Seed Extract is believed to be due to an inhibitory effect on the catalytic breakdown of capillary wall proteoglycans via hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down the hyaluronic acid component of connective tissue. The inhibition may occur through a protective action on the fragile lysosomal membrane that is the site of enzyme release. Other mechanisms include an anti-inflammatory effect and potent vaso-constrictive properties which exerts a positive influence on venous tone and increases the flow velocity of venous blood.
TISSUE PRO contains 100 mg of HORSE CHESTNUT Aesculus hippocastanum, to assist in maintaining optimal peripheral vascular health, and help treat chronic venous insufficiency and associated symptoms.
CALCIUM Calcium D-glucarate facilitates waste disposal and elimination of foreign elements, through regulation of beta-glucuronidase activity, supporting the glucuronidation detoxification cellular cleansing process.
TISSUE PRO contains 80 mg of CALCIUM D-GLUCARATE, to assist in maintaining optimal liver health.
ALPHA LIPOIC ACID (ALA) is naturally found in red/organ meats, spinach, broccoli, potatoes, yams, carrots, beets, and yeast and is a potent thiol-containing antioxidant which is presumed to suppress vascular inflammation Alpha-lipoic acid is both water and fat soluble, which provides its broad spectrum antioxidant effects. It deactivates free radicals, protecting many tissues, offering neuroprotective and regenerative, immunoprotective and supportive effects, enhances glucose transport improving insulin sensitivity, and modulates healthy inflammatory responses to counter the chronic system inflammation found in degenerative conditions and aging.
Alpha-lipoic acid acts as a metabolic antioxidant, playing a critical role in regulating normal metabolism and energy production as it is necessary for acetyl-coenzyme A conversion (from pyruvate) and acts as a cofactor for alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase. Its’ ability to recycle other antioxidants like glutathione, vitamins C & E, improves the body’s antioxidant defenses, protecting all tissue health and function, including hepatic, ocular, immune, neural and connective tissues. Alpha-Lipoic acid has demonstrated benefit in reducing heavy metal toxicity, from mercury, cadmium and other environmental toxins. ALA may even offer an analgesic treatment.
PHYSICIANS RESEARCH™ chooses Alpha R-Lipoic Acid, the biologically active form of alpha-lipoic acid, which is a natural, fully active form, that is the proper structural fit for membrane receptors and enzymes, metabolizes more efficiently and has a much greater potency than the synthetic form. Alpha R-Lipoic Acid has shown to be 10X more powerful than standard Alpha RS-Lipoic Acid known as Alpha-Lipoic Acid, the synthetic form.
Studies have indicated that Alpha-Lipoic Acid scavenges hydroxyl radicals, hypochlorous acid, and singlet oxygen. Another possible mechanism is that Alpha-Lipoic Acid exerts antioxidant effects via transition metal chelation. Supplementation with Alpha-Lipoic Acid has been successfully employed in a variety of in vivo models including hypertension.
TISSUE PRO contains 80 mg of ALPHA LIPOIC ACID, as Alpha R-Lipoic Acid, to assist in maintaining optimal liver, ocular, tissue & vascular health.
N-ACETYL-L-CYSTEINE (NAC) Glutathione is the main antioxidant substrate in all tissue. N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine is known to effectively raise intracellular glutathione levels. In fact, N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine ranks as one of the strongest and most versatile xenobiotic (environmental toxin) detoxifiers.
There are two major known modes of action for N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine which is to act as a scavenger of free radicals and to augment intracellular levels of glutathione. Glutathione depletion is often detected in chronic pathological conditions like hepatitis C infection, alcohol consumption or xenobiotic assault with simultaneous reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and hepatic iron overload. Glutathione is the major antioxidant of the hepatocyte and important for detoxification of drugs and environmental toxins. Decrease in GSH level alters cellular redox environment and increases intracellular generation of ROS.
N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine provides sulfur amino acids critical for a healthy immune response, tissue repair and detoxification. NAC combined with potassium escalates mercury elimination by 163%, the level of DMPS or DMSA elimination.
Ocular health is improved with NAC as it boosts glutathione levels, which are often depleted to one-tenth of a healthy lens in those with cataracts. Glutathione partially prevents loss of color vision in rats witth retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative ocular condition leading to blindness.
NAC neutralizes many pro-oxidants, including hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorous acid and hydroxyl radicals. NAC has shown to protect the integrity of two hepatic antioxidants, mitochondrial superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase. NAC protects against viral-induced damage by suppressing oxidative stress-induced activation of proinflammatory, nuclear factor NF-kappa beta, and by inhibiting viral replication via modulation of virus-receptor expression, independent of ROS.
TISSUE PRO contains 80 mg of N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC), to assist in maintaining optimal liver, ocular, tissue & vascular health.
GREEN TEA EXTRACT Camellia sinensis is used as a good source of antioxidants for the maintenance of good health, as per the NHPD monograph 2008. Green Tea Extract provides high amounts of polyphenolic catechins, including catechin, epi- catechin, epi-gallocatechin, and epi-gallocatechin-3-gallate, clinically proven for their antioxidant effects, support of immune responsiveness, and hepatoprotectant benefits.
Catechins within Green Tea Extract protect against free radicals and lipid peroxidation, influencing lipid metabolism, decreasing LDL cholesterol while increasing HDL cholesterol, and has been used to improve cognitive performance. Catechins also support hormone production and function, enzyme function, and provides photoprotective effects to the skins. Epigallocatechin-gallate (EGCG) has shown to protect retinal and corneal cells from oxidative stress, in rats.
TISSUE PRO contains 60 mg of GREEN TEA Camellia sinensis, standardized to min. 95% polyphenols, 80% catechins, 50% EGCG and less than 2% caffeine, to assist in maintaining optimal liver, ocular, tissue & vascular health.
BUTCHERS BROOM Ruscus aculeatus is a small evergreen shrub native to western Europe and traditionally regarded in Western herbal medicine as a diuretic, diaphoretic, laxative and expectorant. Recent clinical trails focus on the anti-edema and venotonic properties. Butchers broom is said to exhibit venoconstrictor effects which influences lymphatic and microcirculatory effect in the body.
TISSUE PRO contains 50 mg of BUTCHER’S BROOM Ruscus aculeatus, to assist in maintaining optimal peripheral vascular health.
GINKGO Ginkgo biloba helps to support peripheral circulation, as per the NHPD monograph 2009. Scientific literature has repeated demonstrated Ginkgo’s ability to improve cognitive function and memory, courtesy of ginkgo flavone glycosides and terpene lactones.
These constituents protect neuron membranes, mitochondria and biochemical processes against oxidative damage by suppression of nitrogen and oxygen reactive species, allowing an anti-inflammatory. Cerebral microcirculation increases with Ginkgo’s inhibition of platelet activating factor, and relaxing vascular walls. Improved delivery and utilization of oxygen and glucose facilitates enhanced concentration, memory and cognitive function.
It is generally accepted that liver cirrhosis is associated with a hyperdynamic circulation and peripheral vasodilatation. Discussions confirm the progression of liver disease and the association between the degree of hyperdynamic circulation. The deterioration of the liver function is followed by a decreased renal blood flow and glomerular filtration rate, and increased sodium and water reabsorption and may progress into the hepatorenal syndrome, a functional and reversible renal impairment in severely ill patients. In its benefit of improving blood flow, Ginkgo biloba has been shown to increase microcirculation of small capillaries as in ocular tissues.
TISSUE PRO contains 40 mg of GINKGO Ginkgo biloba, standardized to 24% Flavonoid Glycosides & 6% Terpene Lactones, to assist in maintaining cardiovascular, cerebral & mental health, supporting peripheral circulation, enhancing memory and cognitive function, optimal liver, ocular, tissue and vascular health.
LUTEIN Lutein (L) is the dominant carotenoids concentrated within the macular pigment within the central retina. Studies have shown that macular pigment is related to many static indicators of visual performance, such as visibility and disability. The correlation between a decrease in the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and Lutein supplementation has been examined in several clinical research studies. Early AMD involves pigmentation changes in the retinal epithelium and macula while late-stage AMD is characterized by neovascularisation of the retina and intraretinal hemorrahge and scarring. Liver disease affects the absorption of Lutein in addition to other non-dietary factors such as age, body composition and malabsorption of fats.
TISSUE PRO contains 5 mg of LUTEIN, from Marigold Tagetes erecta, to assist in maintaining optimal ocular health, preventing cataracts & age-related macular degeneration.
Pycnogenol® Pinus pinaster Pycnogenol® is a patented water extract of the French pinaster pine bark (Pinus pinaster). Pycnogenol® contains several active constituents including flavonoid monomers such as catechin, epicatechin, and taxifolin. It also contains condensed procyanidins (also called flavonoids or proanthocyanidins). Pycnogenol® contains oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC’s), bioflavonoids that have documented effectiveness as free radical scavengers protecting against oxidative damage, and protect the integrity of blood vessels, optimizing collagen health, by inhibition of proteolytic enzymes that degrade skin and vasculature.
One of the risk factors for developing glaucoma is the presence of intraocular hypertension. Retinopathy frequently occurs as a consequence of a retinal localization of microangiopathy in the course of diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension and atherosclerosis. The mechanism of action of Pycnogenol® may be related to its free radical (FR) scavenging, anti-inflammatory and capillary protective activities. Reports suggest that Pycnogenol may bind to the blood vessel wall proteins and mucopolysaccharides and produce a capillary sealing effect which could lead to a reduced capillary permeability and less edema formation.
TISSUE PRO contains 5 mg of PYCNOGENOL® Pinus pinaster, to assist in maintaining optimal liver, ocular, tissue & vascular health.
SELENIUM Selenomethionine Yeast-Free is an antioxidant that is essential in the maintenance of good health. Selenium enables physiological effects through over 25 different selenoenzymes. Selenium, an essential part of glutathione peroxidase, is a powerful hepatoprotectant against oxidative damage to cell membranes. Selenium insufficiency reduces liver glutathione peroxidase and hepatic antioxidant protection. In rats and mice, this insufficiency induces cataracts through reduced activity of glutathione peroxidase.
TISSUE PRO contains 100 mcg of SELENIUM, as Selenomethionine, to assist in maintaining optimal liver, ocular and tissue health.
