VITAMIN C-LYSINE ZINC SUPPORT provides pure Ascorbic Acid, with no corn starch. Ideal for those requiring that extra support due to higher Vitamin C requirements with smoking, alcohol ingestion, stress, diabetes, pregnancy, environmental stressors and various drugs.
Vitamin C is such a crucial nutrient in the body's biochemistry as an antioxidant, playing an integral role in free radical damage, proper immune function, efficient wound healing, and collagen & connective tissue synthesis and stabilization. Vitamin C is also critical for making vital brain chemicals, cellular energy production, carbohydrate metabolism, fat & protein synthesis and cholesterol breakdown.
Lysine, an essential amino acid, is key for collagen formation, tissue repair, fat transport carnitine synthesis, fat burning and enzyme production. Most importantly, Lysine is involved in maintaining healthy immune function, particularly with its antiviral actions against Herpes, makes it a valuable cohort with Vitamin C.
Zinc is also added for its benefits with tissue regeneration and immune function. Proportional amounts of Copper are included to balance the Zinc/Copper ratio for optimal absorption, preventing antagonistic deficiencies.

VITAMIN C ASCORBIC ACID, is essential for collagen synthesis and other components of the matrix of capillaries, bones, skin and connective tissues. Deficiencies weaken tissues manifesting as slow wound & fracture healing, easy bruising & bleeding, bleeding gums and poor immunity.
Hydroxylation of proline and lysine by Ascorbic acid is required for collagen synthesis and stabilization. This role make Ascorbic acid integral in reparation of damaged tissues. Ascorbic acid also promotes angiogenesis, and is a powerful antioxidant.
Ascorbic acid facilitates optimal immune function by improving white blood cell (neutrophil) activity to increase bacterial destruction. Studies have demonstrated that Vitamin C may prevent the common cold, reducing its frequency, weakening its effect and shortening its duration.
Many viruses have been inactivated by Ascorbic acid in vitro, including Herpes simplex, enhancing immunity. Studies began as early as 1936 touting Vitamin C for treatment of Herpes simplex. Healing of lesions was accelerated with massive parenteral doses. In AIDS patients, oral and IV Vitamin C with topical Ascorbic acid paste was effective.
Patients with Herpes simplex infections on 200 mg Ascorbic acid and flavonoids three times daily or placebo, proved effective especially if initiated in early stages, for early remission 57% shorter (5.5 days shorter) than placebo. Studies emphasize that higher doses of Vitamin C show a more pronounced antiviral effect. Treatments for acute infections may be upwards of 10,000 mg daily to bowel tolerance, for 5-10 days.
LYSINE is essential and must be ingested. Since animal proteins are the richest sources, vegetarians may become deficient, although legumes provide a good source of lysine. Athletes with frequent, intense workouts may be at risk for Lysine deficiency. Deficiency symptoms include dizziness, fatigue, nausea, anorexia, slow growth, irritability, anemia and reproductive dysfunction.
Many biological activities require lysine including connective tissue synthesis, children’s growth and development, carnitine synthesis, fatty acid conversion to energy and healthy immune function especially against viruses. Since lysine is conserved and free lysine resides within the muscle, deficiency may occur without muscle wasting unlike other essential amino acids.
Arginine and Lysine are antagonistic, thus Arginine’s need for replication of (Herpes Simplex Virus) HSV allows Lysine to inhibit HSV growth.
Oral Lysine supplementation influences the Lysine/Arginine ratio which may help to manage HSV outbreaks.
A multi-centered trial of 45 patients suffering frequent HSV infections were given 312-1200 mg lysine daily for 2 – 36 months and high arginine foods were omitted. A significant minimization of HSV recurrence was seen until lysine was discontinued, and then lesions appeared within 1-4 weeks.
A small trial of 9 patients taking 500 mg lysine daily on a low arginine diet confirmed reductions in recurrence, severity and duration.
This was also seen in a double blind, placebo controlled trial of 27 patients given 1000 mg lysine three times daily for 6 months.
Eighty-eight percent (88%) of 1543 patients surveyed, with cold sore or genital herpes, reported lysine supplementation proved effective.
A double blind, placebo controlled, crossover trial of 41 patients with recurrent HSV taking 500 or 1000 mg daily or placebo for 24 weeks, then the opposite treatment for another 24 weeks. All patients consumed a high lysine, low arginine diet, and only those given high dose lysine saw fewer recurrences.
Many studies repeat the benefit that lysine supplementation is beneficial in reducing the rate of recurrence of HSV infections, when complemented with a high lysine, low arginine diet.
Multiple clinical studies examining the effect of lysine on calcium absorption showed that lysine supplementation may facilitate calcium intestinal absorption, and can decrease the urinary excretion of calcium after oral ingestion.
ZINC is an essential trace mineral required by over 300 enzymes, and integral for DNA synthesis, cell division and protein synthesis hence its necessity for tissue regeneration and repair. Deficiency results in poor wound healing due to reduced protein and collagen synthesis. In fact, surgery or wounds may create Zinc deficiencies due to increase Zinc demands at the site. Perioperative supplementation of Zinc (15-30 mg daily) may be necessary to prevent deficiency. Increased Zinc requirements are also seen in patients with chronic diarrhea, malabsorption, malnutrition etc.
Zinc is also crucial for immune function and signaling cell apoptosis, neuronal transmission, brain function, anabolic cell activities, blood clotting & platelet formation, Vitamin A & Folate synthesis, superoxide dismutase (SOD), steroidal hormonal synthesis, growth & development in children and testosterone & semen formation.
Recurrent Genital Herpes outbreaks monthly for three months qualified ten patients to receive Zinc sulfate 50 mg and 5 mg of magnesium, thiamine and riboflavin. Lesion days reduced by 57%, and doubling the dose at premonitory signs prevented attacks. Reduction of attack frequency was more pronounced with longer treatments.
The combination of Zinc sulfate 23 mg and Vitamin C 250 mg twice daily for six weeks reduced the severity and duration of Herpes simplex outbreaks during supplementation. Thus this may be beneficial for sun-induced herpetic outbreaks, prophylactically.
Zinc supplementation should definitely be considered as a crucial part of immune support for patients with recurrent HSV infections.
COPPER is required for long term Zinc supplementation to prevent Zinc-induced copper deficiency. Copper is essential in ATP synthesis, connective tissue formation, Iron metabolism, neurotransmitter synthesis, gene transcription, superoxide dismutase (SOD) synthesis, skin pigmentation and myelin sheath formation. Estrogen dominance causes a rise in Copper levels, triggering Zinc depletion and deficiency.
